Scout Bash 100! - June 5th at Kings Dominion
Scout Bash 100 will be the council's celebration of the 100th anniversary of the BSA. The event will be held at Kings Dominion on June 5th and will have three main components: Scout demonstrations in the park, a great 100th anniversary arena show in the evening and a campout on the old airstrip.

There are four basic components to required training:
1. Fast Start
2. This is Scouting
3. Youth Protection
4. Position Specific
The first three can be done online at www.olc.scouting.org.
A new leader can take create a MyScouting account and take training before receiving a leader registration number. Once a leader receives their number they can then add it to their MyScouting profile. Many questions can be answered at MyScouting.org under FAQ.

Friends of Scouting Fundraising Dinner February 16!
Joe Theismann - Keynote Speaker 
Mr. Theismann is a former star quarterback for the Washington Redskins and an NFL commentator. In addition, he was a Cub Scout, Boy Scout (Life rank) and an Explorer, and has a great message about Scouting and its influence on his life.
The Scouts are also very pleased to announce that Dominion Resources, Inc., which is also celebrating its 100th year, is the lead corporate sponsor. Dominion’s CEO, Tom Farrell, is serving as the honorary dinner chairman.

Scouts Respond to Cry for Relief in Haiti - Buy a tent or other supplies for Haiti 
The Boy Scouts of America is rallying its troops with an effort to assist families devastated by recent earthquakes in Haiti. The BSA, through it's World Friendship Fund, is keeping an eye to the future by providing more long-term support for sustained improvements to the Haitians’ living conditions.
We are appealing to Scouting families across the country to join our efforts in a simple-to employ way. With a one-time contribution, donors can choose a support kit that will provide shelter and other elements of comfort and protection to Haitian individuals and families.

Moving Scouting Forward in 2010
On January 21st the Key 3 of each district (District Chairman, District Commissioner and District Executive) got together for our council's annual growth conference. Each district set goals for the year but the focus was on how we will MOVE SCOUTING FORWARD in 2010. The numerical goals were the metrics to "how do we know when we have been successful?"
How will we move Scouting forward in 2010?
1. Help units be successful - Work with unit to earn the national Quality Unit Award - Train leaders - Provide program support & Roundtables - Operate great camps.
Initiative - Ensure the Top Leader of every unit is trained by the end of 2010! Read more>>
2. Provide opportunities for youth to join - Conduct Membership Drives - Organize New Units - Build Relationships With Community Organizations.
3. Fund Scouting - Friends of Scouting annual giving campaign - Popcorn Sale - Special Events like the Golf Tournament and Sporting Clays Classic.

There are requirements for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers, Leaders and even Alumni! Complete 3 of 5 requirements in each category to earn a ribbon for the category. The categories are Scouting's five core values: Leadership; Achievement; Community Service; Character and the Outdoors. Anyone can buy the patch but you must earn the ribbons.
